Can you get by without a dialect coach?
When crafting a character voice for a ‘dialect‘ part, some actors actually do indeed just work from recordings (ideally video or at least hifi audio), though, the savvy actor will not just have a native speaker read the lines. My favorite dialect recordings involve a gaggle of native speakers of mixed age and sex each …

You love your cast. They are talented, well-trained, reliable -- maybe even famous -- with great instincts and the perfect fit for their parts. But their awkward dialect work is getting in the way of the whole illusion. Region? Wrong. Generation? Off. Social background? Missed. And they are pushing so hard to compensate that you are afraid some might even lose their voices at the 11th hour. Their struggle with dialect isn't just throwing their confidence and taking them out of the moment; some even sound more like 'walking accents' than people, and each is on a different page.
